Manila Matriarchs Begins Production

Filipina-led Unscripted Series Begins Production in Manila.

Filming has started for the unscripted series Manila Matriarchs. The cast and crew were spotted in San Francisco and Metro Manila this week shooting the 8-part series. The affluent and influential women, dressed in designer outfits, attended an event or dinner at Provenance Gallery at Shangri-La at The Fort.

Furthermore, the confirmed cast includes entrepreneur Joanna Preysler-Francisco, fashion maven Myrza Sison, Silicon Valley CEO Trisha Bantigue-Tsao, and TV presenter Karylle Tatlonghari-Yuzon. Images also popped up on the ladies’ social media accounts this week chronicling “Day 1” shooting.

Storyline and Production Team

Manila Matriarchs is an upcoming unscripted reality show following the lives of 4 women from the Philippines as they navigate motherhood, sisterhood, careers, love, social standing, and the pursuit of true happiness.

Helmed by Filipino-American producers Cece Asuncion (Strut, Road to the Runway) of Girl, Bye Productions, Miguel Santos (Eat Your Words, Mom vs Matchmaker), and JP Mallo and Justyn Reyes of J Creative Entertainment, Manila Matriarchs marks a new movement of US production companies looking overseas—particularly in Asia. To develop content for global streamers and distributors in an extremely contracted entertainment ecosystem.

Moreover, this new series is reflective of a time where streamers, broadcasters, distributors, and consumers are craving unique and differentiated storytelling with a relatable human message—and with these Manila Matriarchs they are strong, badass, inspiring women here to stay.

Cecilio Asuncion of Girl, Bye Productions will executive produce Manila Matriarchs. Miguel Santos, Eddie Tran, and Joy Tarce also serve as executive producers, while JP Mallo and Justyn Reyes of J Creative Entertainment are co-executive producers. This project is in partnership with Secretary Benhur Abalos, the Philippines Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG), and the Film Development Council of the Philippines (FDCP).
